* Vörtstyrkan means:
"The Wort Force".

This Society started 1982 in Lund, Sweden. We meet every second or third week when we try at least 6 new beers. Only the host for the meeting knows what's in the glasses. No home brews or beers on taps are tasted. The participants give marks from 4* (very good) to 1 (undrinkable) and rank the beers. (* Some persons in the club give grade 5 to superb beer, but most almost never give grade 5, that's the reason why almost no beer reach an average above 4.00. As a general rule, all beer with a mean value of 3,80 or higher can be considered a very good beer, and above 4,00 a superb beer).
There's always a reference beer available (Swedish-brewed Carlsberg Export) to compare with, which has mark 3 (a typical normal lager).
When everybody has given their judjements on all the beers, the average mark for each beer is calculated. Then the beer is presented.
After that there's free drinking and eating (chips and dip sauce, etc). The participants in the club, for the moment we are 7 in the "hard core" travel quite a lot and bring home beer from all over the globe. We also get a substantial amount of beer by friends, especially the pheromone group staff; see the list of "sponsors".
After Sweden joined the European Community Jan 1 1995 the Swedish monopoly (Systembolaget) has increased the number of beer, and for example in January 1998, offered over 280 different beers. Before Jan 1 beer stronger than 5,6 vol. % was not sold (we had to buy it in Denmark or elsewere) but nowadays Systembolaget sell tasty Belgian 11 % Kloster beer. So nowadays we have a hard time keeping the pace with the new beers arriving. Nevertheless there are a number of countries we have never tried;
Albania, Andorra, Surinam and a lot of African countries (Benin, Ivory Coast etc.) We are interested to get hold of a bottle or two from any of these countries. See the country lists below to see which we are missing.
